A TALE OF TRADITION, GROWTH AND INNOVATION THAT ALLOWED MOLINAS TO BECOME A PILLAR OF THE INDUSTRIAL HISTORY

More than a century ago, in Calangianus, Pietro Molinas started his cork business. It was a long journey that benefited from the key role played by Peppino Molinas, with whom the company received the necessary impulse to begin the transformation from craftsmanship to industry.

In the 80s, a new production structure was founded, in harmony with nature and the surrounding area. Over the years, the main activities have been diversified to create a true industrial group in the hands of the Molinas family, now also involving the fourth generation.

SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION TO PRESERVE THE ECOSYSTEM OF OUR CORK OAK STANDS

Sugherificio Molinas believes that sustainability means respect for nature, its times and dynamics. Sustainability involves continuous researches to minimize our impact on the environment as well as the definition of clear, concrete, achievable, and measurable goals.

As part of this path, since 2021 Molinas obtained the Chain of Custody certification (Chain of Custody, CoC, BV-COC-164758), which guarantees the complete and detailed traceability of a forest product. Traceability that is monitored at every stage and point of its production, processing and marketing process, in a clear and defined manner.

GOALS ACHIEVED
Sustainability is not just a matter of rhetoric: environmental protection and business development must go hand in hand.

Sustainability Report
RENEWABLE ENERGY AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Since 2018, we have been working to implement a plan to reduce the consumption of non-renewable fuels, replacing them with environmentally friendly fuels and green energy sources. In addition, thanks to a shrewd investment plan, we have been able to implement a series of interventions to make our production lines more efficient, inserting new machinery and adopting new low-consumption technologies. All this has enabled us to drastically reduce the carbon footprint of our Cork Factory, even going so far as to have a positive impact on the environment.

RECYCLING AND THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

From forest maintenance to plant care, from the harvesting of the raw cork bark to its processing, to the selection and production: nothing is wasted and everything becomes part of the production cycle of the Cork Factory, either in the form of a finished product of different types, quality, composition and purpose, or in the form of fuel biomass or fertiliser.

The cork factory in Calangianus
AN INDUSTRIAL AREA OF 50,000 M2, PRODUCING MORE THAN 800 MILLION CORK STOPPERS PER YEAR

At the Calangianus plant we focus on human resources and technology, on a total area of 170,000 square meters, including 50,000 covered area, where four different work units are combined.

Here, men and women with decades of experience work every day to transform cork into an extraordinary variety of products, e.g cork stoppers, highly sought-after insulating boards for modern green building, components for the footwear industry, wall and floor coverings.

A combination of craftsmanship and technological innovation for a unique and refined range of cork products.

The laboratory
