Why don’t we use an electronic nose?
The electronic nose is an excellent instrument, but it has some limits that must be taken in consideration. First of all, we have to remember that this instrument needs to be calibrate, and we have to be careful about this, repeating it cyclically, increasing the risk of error during the cork stoppers selection
We perfectly know that besides the cork taint, the cork stoppers can be affected by many other kinds of sensory deviations:mould,vanilla,roasted,wet rag and many other.
The electronic sorting machine can analyse the cork just to detect at most a defect for each analysis carried out, not only the taint due to TCA.
